Today’s Wordle Hints and Answers for May 14, 2025
Happy Wednesday—aka Odin’s Day!
Every Wednesday, in honor of the Norse god Odin, we celebrate “Wordle Wednesday” with a fun little riddle or puzzle before diving into the daily Wordle. Here’s today’s brain teaser:
The Riddle:
A husband and wife are driving at night when their car runs out of gas. The man walks to a nearby gas station, leaving his wife in the locked car. When he returns, the doors are still locked—but his wife is dead, and there’s a stranger inside.
What happened?
I’ll reveal the answer in tomorrow’s Wordle post. If you think you’ve solved it, feel free to message me on social media!
Now onto today’s Wordle!
Hint: Think drum.
Clue: The word has a double letter.
Spoilers ahead!
My guesses today didn’t start well. I opened with “CROAK” and only got one yellow “O”—leaving me with 274 possible words. “FELON” helped a bit, cutting it down to 27. Still pretty stuck, I tried “SOUND” and got the “O” in the right spot. “MONTH” gave me another green letter and left me with two word options. I guessed “BONGO”—and got it right! Lucky me, since “GONZO” was also possible.
Wordle Stats Today
I solved it in 5 tries, which means -1 point in our little competition. The Wordle Bot got it in 3, so it gains 2 points today (one for speed, one for beating me).
Current Score:
Erik: 13 points
Wordle Bot: 8 points
How Competitive Wordle Works:
Guess in 1 = 3 points
In 2 = 2 points
In 3 = 1 point
In 4 = 0
In 5 = -1
In 6 = -2
Miss it = -3
Beat your opponent = +1 point. Lose = -1. Tie = 0.
Fridays are Double Points Day!
Word Origin Time!
Today’s Wordle was BONGO, which comes from the Spanish bongó, used in eastern Cuba in the late 1800s. It ultimately traces back to African Bantu languages, where words like ngoma or mgombo mean “drum.” It appeared in English around 1920.
